The U.S. is once again organizing massive war drills in and around Korea. Two drills, taking place from February 27-April 30 involve tens of thousands of U.S. troops and those of south Korea. They are openly aimed at preparing for “assumed threats,” meaning for invading the north, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). In addition to the close to 30,000 U.S. troops already occupying south Korea, more than 10,000 more will be brought in for these war drills. These drills are extensive and designed to provoke the DPRK, involving ground, air, naval, marine, expeditionary, and special operations, often near disputed areas. As usual with the U.S., the “assumed threat” is non-existent — like those for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, or from Iran, which the U.S. admits has no nuclear weapons. The government lied about the Iraq "threat" to justify invasion, is lying about Iran in preparation for invasion and also lies and spreads disinformation about the DPRK. The place for diplomacy and peaceful, political resolution of conflicts has been eliminated, replaced by use of force and violence as the weapon of choice. The DPRK has never invaded any other country and has no troops abroad. It is not occupying any country or threatening first-strike offensive use of nuclear weapons. The DPRK does call for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, beginning with removal of U.S. forces and weapons. She calls for reunification of Korea through peaceful, independent means, based on the efforts of the Koreans themselves. She also stands firm against U.S. threats, such as the repeated threat for first-strike nuclear action against the DPRK. The U.S. has long had a nuclear arsenal as part of its occupation forces and arms in south Korea. These military drills serve as drills for criminal aggression. They are part of U.S. brinkmanship, using thereats and a massive show of force — brinkmanship that could easily trigger regional and world war. They see to increase insecurity and the potnetial for threats to become war. Voice of Revolution demands that these war drills be cancelled. We demand All U.S. Troops Home Now! We call on the U.S., the only country to use nuclear weapons and the one constantly modernizing its massive arsenal and making them more horrific to Disarm Now. These are the actions that safeguard peace and assist in removing the threat of nuclear war. No Naval Base at Jeju! As further evidence that it is the U.S. that is threatening the Korean people, a new military base is being built on the island of Jeju, in the southern region of south Korea, near both China and Japan. It is a naval base designed to furthe rmilitarize the region and accommodate U.S. “missile defense,” meaning U.S. targeting of Korea and China as part of its plans to conquier Asia. The residents of the island have been waging a fierce struggle to stop the building of the base fore more than five years and have overwhelmingly voted against its construction. The people of Jeju are known for their firm stand for rights and defending Korea, having resisted U.S. efforts to occupy and divide the country after World War II. Her people are known for standing up to a brutal U.S.-backed massacre in 1948, rejecting occupation then as they are doing now. Jeju is known as Peace Island and is home to three UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites and nine UNESCO Geo-Parks. Jeju is also designated a Global Biosphere Reserve. The building of the base is thus a threat to both the human and natural environment. It serves the U.S. drive for world domination, while threatening world peace. We say No Naval Base on Jeju! An international campaign is being organized to defend Jeju and block the base and Voice of Revolution urges all to contribute as they can. This is a struggle for peace in a region the U.S. is turning into a staging ground for world war. Cancel U.S. War Dirlls in Korean! Stop Jeju Naval Base! All U.S. Troops Home Now! |
