British people are to demonstrate in London to voice their anger against the government's involvement in the bombings of Libya and which has led to the death of scores of civilians. Stop the War Coalition and Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) have asked anti-Libya war protesters to partake in the emergency protest “Stop the Bombing,” when the British MPs are discussing about Libya on Monday May 16. CND expressed its regret on the UK government's plan “to pursue military intervention for regime change in Libya and opposes the current attacks.” Rather than imposing air attacks by the coalition forces, the CND leaders suggested diplomatic and political methods to resolve the conflict and therefore an “outcome determined by the Libyan people themselves.” Analysts say the British government seems to have not learned the lessons of the past decade's interventionist wars, since the military interference is not the immediate answer to what the Libyan pro-democracy protesters have been looking for. The London protesters will gather at Downing Street, Whitehall at 5:00 PM to ask the UK government to stop military operations in Libya. SAB/AKM/HE |
