Doreen Lawrence is to be presented with an award for her outstanding achievement on Saturday 26th May 2012 to coincide with the 49th Anniversary of African Liberation Day (ALD) which is a steadfast symbol of the world-wide Pan-African movement. "African Liberation Day for us is only an instrument to help organize our people..." In recognition of Doreen’s private and public struggles for racial justice, not just for her murdered son Stephen, but for all ethnic minorities over the past two decades, the National Forum for African Caribbean Organisations (NFACO) will be celebrating this incredible woman for her commitment to advancing aspiration, opportunity and achievement in the face of discrimination and deprivation. Assemble at 12pm to join the Carnival style procession at 1pm as it makes its way from Speakers Corner, Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square where the organisers will host a spectacular showcase ofAfrican Culture and Heritage in the UK.
