Paris, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) The actions taken by workers from different sectors intensified in France on Thursday, a day before the beginning of the Football Eurocup, an event this country will host this month. In sectors such as railroads, refineries and garbage collection, workers have presented internal demands and are protesting against the government's draft bill on labor reform, which will be debated in the Senate next week. Garbage collection workers expanded their strike. It started by blocking waste-treating centers in Paris, and has spread to other cities of the country, where garbage is piling up on the sidewalks, local media reported. According to CGT, the largest trade union in France, four of six garages that keep 300 collection trucks were blocked as part of the one-week protest. The City Hall of Paris informed that garbage collection has been affected for several days. CGT assured that a similar action is hindering garbage collection in the southern cities of Marseille, Saint- Etienne and Aix-en-Provence. In addition, French railroad workers are staging their ninth day of strike on Thursday. They decided to continue the strikes nationwide, so the company has been forced to cancel at least 50 percent of regular trains. sgl/jg/lam/mfb Modificado el ( jueves, 09 de junio de 2016 ) |
