01 de octubre de 2011, 11:56Havana, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) The emergency writ the U.S. Attorney's Office presented in a court of appeals in 2001 against a Cuban anti-terrorist sentenced to two life imprisonments plus 15 years is outrageous, the local press reported Saturday. With such request, the prosecutor admitted the lack of any proof to support the accusation against Gerardo Hernandez on charges of conspiracy to commit first degree murder, Granma daily reported. However, Gerardo was found guilty, and given an irrational sentence for an alleged crime that the prosecutor failed to support. For Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, the emergency writ presented before the Atlanta Court of Appeals in May 2001 was another outrageous move with regards to the trial against Gerardo and his four compatriots. "The United States presents this request fully aware of the numerous obstacles ahead," says the release of the U.S. government to the Atlanta judges. Once the trial began, the Attorney's Office resorted to conspiracy as the main charge against Gerardo, and the process followed against Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, and Fernando Gonzalez was also channelled in that same direction. hr/dig/ro |
