| Britain’s largest union, Unite, accused the government of betraying taxpayers and clinging on to failed dogma following its decision to reprivatise the highly successful East Coast mainline. Commenting, Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said: "This nakedly political decision to rush through the reprivatisation of the East Coast mainline before the general election is a betrayal of the taxpayers and staff who have made East Coast a success. "People will rightly ask why the Tory-led coalition thought it was OK for the French government to bid and run our railways, but not our own public sector who got the East Coast back on track. "Rail privatisation has spectacularly failed both taxpayers and the travelling public. Rather than one that has glued itself to a failed dogma, we need a government that puts the people and our national bank balance first." |
