Madrid, Dec 27 (Prensa Latina) A strike against the privatization of Spanish railroad companies and for better working conditions achieved its goal, the General Labor Confederation assured on Saturday, when it described the minimum services decreed by authorities as abusive. Exercising the right to guarantee essential activities, the Ministry of Development established minimum services of 77 percent for high-speed and long-distance trains, and 57-65 percent for narrow-track and medium-distance trains. The strike affected some 250 of 5,000 scheduled trains in Spain, according to reports from the companies Renfe and Adif. The labor organization noted that railroad workers set an example of maturity and responsibility in supporting the mobilization for public and social railroad against the privatization plans, despite the Ministry of Development's decision to maintain most services. A communiqué from the trade union recalled that the 23-hour-long strike also demanded new revenues without precarious working conditions, a wage rise in 2015 and the devolution of extraordinary payments held since 2012. jg/tgj/ml Modificado el ( sábado, 27 de diciembre de 2014 ) |
