The burning of Cork, 100 years ago
December 11, 2020 · 12:44 am Republican News
This week marks the 100 year anniversary of the burning of Cork City by British Crown Forces. An account (abridged from an essay by historian Donal Fallon) of the conflict before and the cruelty during the devastating Cork City fire. “The most colossal single act of vandalism committed in the whole period of the national struggle” was how Florence O’Donoghue, the Head of Intelligence of the Cork No.1 Brigade of the IRA, described the destruction of Cork City on the night of 11 December, 1920.

CLEANER’S UNION UVW FORCES GREAT ORMOND STREET CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL TO END OUTSOURCING AND BRING HUNDREDS OF OUTSOURCED WORKERS INTO THE DIRECT EMPLOYMENT OF THE NHS
10.12.2020 / NEWS / PRESS RELEASES / GOSH

Hundreds of cleaners outsourced to the multinational contractor OCS at the world renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) will be made NHS employees on 1st August 2021 following a campaign by trade union United Voices of the World (UVW).
UVW submitted a 45-page claim to the Board of GOSH and were poised to commence a ballot for industrial action when the announcement was made.
This victory marks the end of decades of outsourcing at GOSH and the end of a £10 million a year contract with outsourcing giant OCS.
This is the second time this year that UVW has forced an NHS Trust to end outsourcing, the first being Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, who gave their 1,200 outsourced staff NHS contracts on 1st April 2020 after protracted strike action which also saw the hospital peacefully occupied.

Support the BattleforBarnoldswick
NSSN 514: December 8, 2020

Workers have been taking industrial action after work was offshored to Singapore. In response to this justified action, Rolls Royce has taken more work to factories in Singapore, Japan and Spain, threatening the viability of the plant. The NSSN pledges our full support and solidarity to the workers and their union Unite. We continue to demand that in order to save jobs and communities, companies and plants threatened with closure should be taken into public ownership. Solidarity to the #BattleforBarnoldswick

AstraZeneca Vaccine Only 62percent Effective, Impact On Elderly Unclear As More Data Needed

by Tyler Durden
Tue, 12/08/2020 - 11:33
Via Zerohedge Unlike the last few weeks, 'vaccine Monday' has become 'vaccine Tuesday', as the Britain's "V-Day" vaccinations grabbed headlines earlier, and now the country's most promising project - the AstraZeneca-Oxford jab - has published peer-reviewed data in the Lancet purporting to show that the shot is safe and effective. However, many questions about its efficacy and safety remain, and if anything, the data suggests that more research on the jab is needed.
