Chris Hyland, treasurer of the Liberal Democrats in the constituency, said: "The electoral mess in South West Surrey is beyond bizarre.

"Patrick Haveron is no longer recognised by us as our candidate and I gather he himself has said that he would be prepared to have his name removed from the ballot paper.

"[But] because of electoral rules this is not possible and it seems no official announcement can be made by the Returning Officer."

Mr Hyland went on to say the Liberal Democrats locally were "unable to officially endorse another candidate", but added that "speaking personally, I am telling members: vote for Dr Louise Irvine [of the NHA Party]".

Workers' Memorial Day, 28 April 2015
The purpose behind Workers' Memorial Day has always been to "remember the dead: fight for the living" and unions are asked to focus on both areas, by considering events or memorial to remember all those killed through work but at the same time ensuring that such tragedies are not repeated. That can best be done by building trade union organisation, and campaigning for stricter enforcement with higher penalties for breaches of health & safety laws.
